Sometimes life doesn't change because everything falls apart.

Sometimes it changes because, for one quiet moment, you finally hear yourself.

I hadn't gone looking for answers that day.

I'd driven to Alderley Edge for a meeting, and if everything had gone to plan, I probably wouldn't have remembered the day at all.

Except I managed to lock my car keys in the boot.

My partner had to bring the spare keys, so while I waited, I decided to go for a walk through the woods nearby.

Looking back now, it almost feels strange to think that something as ordinary as locking my keys in the car could change the direction of my life.

The woods were beautiful.

Quiet.
Peaceful.

There wasn't another person around.

After months of constantly being on the go, it was probably the first time I'd been completely still.

I found a wooden bench and sat down.

Then, completely out of nowhere, I started to cry.

Not because I'd had a bad day.
Not because anything terrible had happened.

In fact, quite the opposite.

I'd had a really good day.

My business was doing well.

I owned a successful home staging company.

Every day was filled with meetings, phone calls, property visits and endless admin.

From the outside, life looked exactly as I'd hoped it would.

People would probably have said I was successful.

The truth is...

I wasn't unhappy.

And I think that's why what happened next caught me completely off guard.

The Woman in the Woods

As I sat there, one thought came into my head.

Not in a dramatic or mystical way.Just a quiet sentence that felt so undeniably true I couldn't ignore it."

This isn't how it was meant to be."

That was it.

One sentence.

But it stopped me in my tracks.

When my husband Luke died, it changed the way I saw time.

His death taught me something I wish none of us ever had to learn.

Life isn't guaranteed.
Tomorrow isn't promised.

I remember promising myself that if I ever found my feet again, I wouldn't just fill my diary.

I'd fill my life.

Somewhere along the way, without even noticing, I'd become busy again.

Not because I was chasing money.
Not because I was unhappy.

Simply because life had quietly become full of doing instead of living.

Sitting on that bench, I realised I'd drifted away from the promise I'd made to myself.

I stayed there for a few more minutes.

The tears stopped.

I stood up.

I stood up.

Walked back through the gate....

...and picked up my phone.

I rang my partner and said,

"I'm giving up the business... and I'm moving to France."

He probably thought I'd lost the plot.

The funny thing was...I hadn't.

For the first time in a long time, I felt completely certain.

I didn't have a plan.

I didn't know how I'd afford it.

I didn't know where I'd live.

I had no idea how any of it was going to work.

I just knew I couldn't ignore what I'd realised on that bench.

Today, my house is on the market.

I've chosen the area of France where I want to build my new life.

I have a vision for creating a place where women rebuilding after their own life changes

can come, breathe and begin again.

None of that existed when I sat down on that bench. It began with one sentence.

And one decision.

Looking back now, I don't think that walk changed my life.

I think it changed the direction I was walking in.

That's often how rebuilding begins.

Not with a perfect plan.

Not with certainty.

Not because you're completely ready.

Just with one quiet moment when you realise...

"This isn't how it was meant to be."   And then...

You take the first step.
